Personal Style: Lea Michele, Rachel from Glee

Today the subject is Lea Michele and her style!

Unlike Rachel, her character from Glee, who wears clothes extremely colorful and preppy, Lea usually wears clothes with more of serious nature, almost always using black. I have gathered some paparazzi shots so we can analyze her wardrobe!

To go to the market, pick up a coffee, do mundane things, Lea dresses in simple clothes, no high heels, always with her sunglasses on (except when it’s night, like the last picture).

To go out with friends, visiting studios (work) or going out with her (ex) boyfriend, Lea dresses in more feminine clothes, lighter tones and wears high heels. I love the first picture’s outfit, with Chris Colfer (Kurt, from Glee), every piece of clothing she’s wearing is beautiful! Even the belt has a bow (you can see it in the picture) and the shoes are so cute!

Lea has a lot of fame for her stylish and magnific choices of dresses for events. She’s always well dressed and has been nominated “Best Dressed” several times! I love every dress she’s worn, and that is why I didn’t even tag the pictures with my usual “Love!”,  they’re all beautiful! Lea always looks like a princess. Be it sexy, with transparency, or sweet, with pick and frills!

Since I love her dresses, I decided to post pics from different events and dates! Lea loves dresses with a tail, sometimes she abuses a bit of a low neckline or decolletage, and she’s always wearing high, high heels because she’s a tiny girl (much like me!)

It’s noticeable that Lea mostly uses her hair down, well stylized, very controlled (no frizz, every strand in its place)! At the 2010 Emmys (second picture), she even had some highlights done on her hair for the event.

Her party make up is usually light on the face – no strongly applied blush – but always focused on her eyes! Her lips tend to be colored in light, lip-tones, or light pink. Her eyes always have false eyelashes applied, a lot of mascara and, depending on the event, a beautiful heavy work of eye shadows.

During her day-to-day, Lea doesn’t wear much make up. Actually, I believe I read an interview with her where she stated that she prefers to not wear make up when she’s not filming or at events, that way her skin can breathe and renovate.

For today, that’s it!

PS: A very polemic subject is that Lea has been called diva, in the bad sense of the word, a few times. They say she’s rude, that the stardom has gone up to her head, but all you have to do is look at these pictures to discover that it’s simply not true! I went through a LOT of pictures to find the right ones to post here and I saw absolutely no photo, during her day-to-day, with many paparazzis following her, where she didn’t SMILE. It takes a lot of good will and a great personality to handle being photographed every day, all day, even when all you want to do is go pick up a medicine at the pharmacy or do some grocery shopping.

Popcorn Time: Nowhere Boy

Okay, it’s gonna sound crazy, but yes, this is another movie post themed Beatles. Sorry guys, but what can I do with my addiction?!

Today’s movie review is “Nowhere Boy”, which makes a direct connection to the song composed by Lennon, “Nowhere Man.”

The movie tells the story of John Lennon before he created the best rock band of all time (sorry, my opinon). We see a John Lennon who was an orphan of a maternal love, a mother who only reappeared when he was a grown man and by circumstances of life, he couldn’t even properly enjoy the love his mother Julia had to give him.

A small parenthesis: where did they find a John Lennon so much alike the actual John Lennon?! Aaron Johnson was perfect in this part. He was my main reason for a preference for John, among the four boys of Liverpool.

The movie was inspired by the book “Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon” written by Julia Baird and shows the story of a smart boy, with many friends, a huge talent but at the same time lonely.

The soundtrack is something else entirely. Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly are a few of the artists who are part of the soundtrack. But two sonds are, in my opinion, the best: “Hello Little Girl”, which was the first song composed by John Lennon and “In Spite of All The Danger” which was composed by Paul Mccartney and George Harrison and is simply beautiful. It was recorded three days before the death of John’s mother, but in the movie, it’s recorded after, so the story could be like the director wanted. Go figure.

We can also see Paul Mccartney and George Harrison during their school days and playing music with John and other friends. It was the beginning of The Beatles. All they were missing was Ringo.

Finally, the movie is worh it if you love Beatles and if you identify yourself with music from the 50s and 60s. To me, beyond the music, the fashion from the 50s and 60s is simply something to love.

But that is a subject for another post…

Here’s the movie trailer and some songs that were mentioned.

Movie trailer.

Since I couldn’t find any video with the scene, I chose this video with the song.

This song is beautiful! I absolutely love it!

Valentine’s Day approaches!

Everyone should know Valentine’s Day – the lovers day celebrated at the 14th February mostly in countries above the Equator line! (Here in Brazil we don’t celebrate this day, we celebrate the 12th June as “Lovers Day”)

As it is near and Tumblr has been romantic lately, I decided to post some vintage cards from Valentine’s Day. A very common line is “will you be my valentine?”, which invites whoever receives the cart to be their lover (or boy/girlfriend, as you wish).

1950’s -1960’s

This one is for Juliet! She loves pandas :D

So cute, aren’t they?! It even makes me want to have lived back in those days, so I could receive and send these sweet cards! But nothing stops you from sending one to your loved one today, anyway! ;)

PS: Most of these cards were found at the tumblr Vintage Gal!

Rick Genest, aka Zombie Boy, for Dermablend

Since I mentioned Dermablend on the last post, I decided to talk about the commercial with Zombie Boy!

It’s one of the best ads I have seen and it had a very significant response when it was launched…. Dermablend is a professional make up brand, with a strong suit in complete coverage of the skin, hiding marks or scars… or even tattoos. As was the theme of the video:

The commercial was very successful and they created a hotsite with a video of the behind the scenes and introducing Rick Genest.

For those who don’t know, Rick Genest is the completely tattooed man that starred the “Born This Way” music video, with Lady Gaga!

The video surprised a LOT of people. It’s easy to become or transform ourselves into “another person” with the right product.

The behind the scenes is worth watching! It was a huge work erasing all those tattoos of the great Zombie Boy.

Shopping in foreign land: CVS and Ulta of Orlando!

It’s time to continue the marathone “shopping in Orlando”, right? Let’s continue with the cosmetic shoppings, this time at Ulta and CVS!

Before traveling, I discovered our hotel had a CVS, a pharmacy that sells just about everything, right at its front yard! And a Friday’s right beside it, which is great for someone who wants to make some out of the blue shopping or doesn’t know where to eat.

Revlon lipsticks, $8.89 at CVS

Starting with my shopping at CVS, these are Revlon lipsticks, here where we live, Brazil, are way way way too expensive. Of course I won’t say they are cheap at 9 bucks, but for the quality of Revlon, it’s a great price. I fell in love with these lipsticks, specially for the Berry Haute one! It’s a pretty purple, more like lilac, it’s not ridiculous on the lips (like some people could think), much to the contrary, and I thought it’s BEAUTIFUL!  It was a different choice for me and my favorite in all of the lipsticks I bought (even considering the MAC ones), because I finally escaped the red and pink lipsticks I always buy because I can’t use brown or nude ones (my mouth is small and the nude lipsticks take the fun away).

Teak Rose Revlon Lipstick and Berry Haute Revlon Lipstick, $8.89 at CVS

Eventually I’ll post test/swatch pictures of each products I bought! The lipsticks are at the top of the list ;) there are so many products that I’m dizzy… but anyway! Haha! Moving on…

Rimmel 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter, $6

I bought this concealer & highlighter at CVS but I lost the receipt with the price, hahaha… I found the price of $6 at Ulta, so that’s the one I’m putting up here. I decided to take this one  because I was curious, I’ve never seen Rimmel here in Brazil, and the brand is british and not expensive! I found this product very ordinary, the small brush is very interesting, the product comes out as you squeeze the package.  I bought a lighter shade than my skin color, so that’s my fault, but I did think that the quality could be better! It says it’s “skin tone adapting concealer”, but it’s not really… it has happened before that I put it on and looked at myself in the mirror, took everything off and put some other, better make up on. So.. yes, I didn’t like it that much!

L'Oreal Studio Secrets - Anti-redness primer, $12.99 at Ulta

Ulta is a very large cosmetic store which is basically divided in two parts: the top line prodcuts at one side, like Benefit, Dermablend, Iman, and at the other site, famous pharmacy brands, like L’Oreal, Revlon, Nyx, etc… obviously, the second one is the cheaper and more accessible side.

I didn’t buy anything at the top line cosmetics because my money was kinda short. Still, I decided to invest in some highly priced itens, like the L’Oreal one. Remember dolar is wort twice the real, money here at Brazil. So everything is double the value for us… I thought this product was great, mainly because I have acne and scars of acne of a year of a very stressful final project, which insist in staying on my face. This product is great to erase a bit of the redness, and it’s good on the undereyes. It’s a bit expensive, yes, but it’s a good investment!

It has a pump at the top and you use very little, it covers well with little product… and more, if you decide to use too much, you risk walking around with a GREEN face! No joke.

These are pictures I took at Ulta with my cellphone, at the fancy site ;)

I took so many pics of Benefit because it’s the prettiest part, haha! Dermablend is that brand of the Zombie Boy commercial (Rick Genest). :) It’s expensive… but I almost bought it! Hahaha had to resist the temptation! If you wanna take a closer look, just click the images and you can see the very large and spy some of the prices!

L'Oreal The One Sweep, $12.99 at Ulta

Anyway, moving on with the products I bought there, this blush charmed me with I saw it! As I said, I love products two-in-one… haha! And it comes with this differently cut brush, to help apply it! Very good! It’s expensive, but like the previous one, it was worth it! In my receipt, it says I had a discount of $6.50 on the L’Oreal products. They were on sale at Ulta when I went (december), I just don’t really remember how the discounts worked….err! Haha!

L'Oreal The One Sweep Sculpting Duo Blush , $12.99 at Ulta

Yeah, it’s a bit expensive! But L’Oreal has amazing products!

Nyx Lipstick Louisiana, $3.99 at Ulta

The only place I found that sold Nyx at Orlando was Ulta! I even researched it on the internet to discover another stores but… niente! As I didn’t have much time to analyze, I just bought one Nyx lipstick. I wish I had bought more products, but you know how it goes… without time to analyze we end up buying things we don’t need. I was already holding a very full basket. So I ended up with only one lipstick! This one is beautiful, but it’s yet again another pink for my collection. I really wanted to vary it a little… oh well, what can I do, right?

Wet'n'wild Coloricon "I'm Feeling Retro", $2.99 at Ulta

I love these small shadow kits, with colors that complement each other! I never use it as it tells us to, because it doesn’t always look nice on me, but I’ve tested this one and it’s SO pigmented, it’s very good! It’s amazing the quality, considering the price! :)

eos Strawberry Lipbalm, $3.29 at Ulta

This balm I got while on the line, ready to pay! It was a very good tip by my dear friend (Marcela), who lent her Carmex to me (see previous shopping post), and has a deliiiiiicious smell!

Guys, for this post that’s it… but I did buy more products at Ulta. They just aren’t make up and this post is way too long!

So I finish this post with a picture of the after-Ulta experience, all of us so happy!

After Ulta! My sister-in-law Júlia (not the same one of the blog... hahaha), me and Júlia's sister, Renata! HAPPY!

Normaderm – Vichy

Um parênteses rápido antes de começar este post:

(WHAT IS UP WITH THIS HEAT!?)

There, it’s over.

Now let’s go. You, that like me, has a very oily skin, and is constantly searching for a product that helps control a bit of this oil that surges on your face, I think I have a weapon that can help you, as it helped me.

It’s the Normaderm, from Vichy, a facial soap that everyone has heard of once and has the fame of cleaning the skin very well and controlling the skins natural oils. And I can say that this fame is truthful! It’s a very light cleaning product and it cleans the skin so well, taking away all the impurities. It has a delicious smell and gives that amazing sensation of clean skin that lasts, you know?

But as it is, the thing about controlling the oiliness, it kinda does, but in this heat it’s not really helping!

I bought this one with a smaller package, with a very friendly price of R$20,00 (US$10), and to really try it, and to make this short, I very much approved of this product!

Creme Hidratante e Advanced Moisturizer – Cetaphil
